About Adventurers for Special Needs (AFSN)

AFSN is a registered non-profit organization under General Statues Section 501(c) (3) in the State of North Carolina (SOSID#: 1314372).

Our mission is to establish fund raising events that can serve special needs people and organizations with both financial and personal support.

We operate with a vision to never give up on the God given value of people with special needs. AFSN operates with an all-volunteer staff to provide maximum value from all donations received and to minimize the AFSN cost of doing business. This four person all-volunteer staff includes the grandparents (Joyce and Pete Peters) and the parents (Jennifer and Brian Peters) of Cameron Peters--a very special young man that has been truly a special gift from God.

AFSN sponsors "extreme events" that involve "adventurers" of all types for our fund raising efforts. We also strive to have 100% of all the donations go to a selected organization that supports special needs children, adults and their families.

Our first event was, The Mount Rainier Climb for Special Needs Children (read more), by AFSN cofounder Brian Peters, is for the Frankie Lemmon School and Developmental Center. Brian successfully completed his climb to the 14,410 foot summit. All donations were 100% tax deductible, but most important donations were used for a great cause.

"Special needs" are commonly defined by what a child/adult can't do -- by milestones unmet, foods banned, activities avoided, experiences denied. These minuses hit families hard, and may make "special needs" seem like a tragic designation. Some parents will always mourn their child's lost potential, and many conditions become more troubling with time.

Other families may find that their child's challenges make triumphs sweeter,
and that weaknesses are often accompanied by amazing strengths.

Special needs people and their families face many challenges and often turn the IMPOSSIBLE into I'm POSSIBLE. As AFSN begins its fund raising journey we will be looking for other "adventurers" to promote on their future extreme adventures.
